In-office or Virtual, Agility Ensures No Hit to Productivity

The COVID-19 pandemic challenged many companies to shift to a work-from-home model at the beginning of the year, forcing many businesses to rapidly adapt systems and procedures to fit a virtual framework.

As the end of the year draws nearer, many businesses are beginning to embrace the work-from-home model for the long-term, as leaders look to evaluate how to continue to keep their employees happy and healthy while also maximizing business output and efficiency.

For SMC Squared, our global teams were fortunate to have been able to seamlessly transition from working in the office to a work-from-home model due to business continuation plans that were built and tested prior to the pandemic.  These plans allowed for an early and smooth shift to remote work before it was mandated by local government officials.

Perhaps the most significantly impacted during the pandemic has been the SMC Squared operations support teams, who were forced to adapt to a virtual work environment at the onset of the pandemic within 24 hours notice.  However, the team rose to the challenge, quickly adapting to their new environments to ensure operational efficiencies while working remotely.  Additionally, the support teams established new procedures to allow for seamless coordination between SMC Squared’s core support groups to ensure business as usual.

“Our operations support and administrative teams are truly the prized backbone of our organization.  Our clients have the support of SMC Squared’s dedicated and in-house HR, finance, operations, and IT teams ensuring that all transitions to remote work run smoothly with zero impact on client productivity,” said CEO Patricia Connolly.

As a people-centric organization, SMC Squared prides itself on the overall well-being and happiness of employees as employee satisfaction rates have a direct effect on productivity, efficiency, and employee retention rates. As such, our executive teams meet regularly with employees to evaluate and adjust processes to ensure that we continue to fit their needs.  During a recent employee survey, SMC Squared received a 99% positivity rate on overall employee satisfaction and continues to receive unsolicited feedback from team members on the virtual model as well.

“The support teams stay connected to ensure the human side of managing during this time remains a critical priority.  We recently added mental health and wellness coverage to support team members’ whole-person needs.  It’s an open ongoing discussion on how to care for the team.  Leaders like Supriya, Malahar and Govind work to put in place the values and culture unique to SMC Squared, ensuring we thrive together through the best of times, as well as the tough times.  Together we are stronger!” said Connolly.
